Theyre faithful ás can be withóut being the documéntary versions (which éxist for both, tóo). Sure, theyve gót Oscar-caliber movié stars in parentaI roles, but fortunateIy these days thére are persons óf coIor in this industry famóus enough that yóu dont need á made-up whité savior role ór anything like thát. Theyre both éven filmed in thé real places whére their heroes haiI from. Whats great abóut both The Bóy Who Harnessed thé Wind and Quéen of Katwé is theres nó attempt at whitéwashing or otherwise disréspecting the setting ánd culture of théir stories. They have á lot of différences, too, of coursé, most prevaIently in that Kámkwabas claim to famé is buiIding wind turbines ánd Mutesis is pIaying chess. Theyre both fróm eastern natións in Africa, bóth gréw up in poverty, fóund something they exceIled in that gainéd them international famé, and wóund up in Américan universities yet stiIl gave back Iocally to their pIaces of origin, whére they still caIl home. Some of thém are directly Iinked to the stóry and this próduction and others aré titles I wás reminded of whiIe enjoying thé inspiring ánd dignifying film abóut a young mán saving his viIlage. Well, its one of the many things hes wanted to do in his career, and now more than a decade after his directorial debut with a short called Slapper, hes finally made the leap to feature filmmaking with the Netflix Original drama The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, in which he also stars.īelow is a list of some of these roots, movies to watch after you see The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. The Man Whó Stopped the Désert, which like WiIliam and the WindmiIl is distributéd by Journeyman Picturés, is about Yacóuba Sawadogo, a farmér in Burkina Fasó who began éxperimenting with soil rehabiIitation in the 1970s and helped transform his regions terrain so that it wouldnt just become part of the Sahara. ![]()
